Notifications

How BookYourPTO keeps you informed — notification types, in-app inbox, email digests, preferences, and Slack/Teams/push channels.

Notifications

Notifications tell you when something needs your attention or has changed — a leave request to approve, an expense that was paid, a certification about to expire. Every notification is delivered in-app, and where applicable also by email, mobile push, and (on Pro and up) Slack or Teams.

One event, multiple channels. A single event can reach you in several places at once — the in-app bell always fires, and the other channels depend on what's applicable and how you've configured your preferences.

Email digests and preferences

Open Settings → Notifications to control what reaches your inbox.

PreferenceWhat it does
Product updatesToggle marketing/product-update emails
Daily digestA once-a-day summary; you choose the hour of day it's sent
Weekly digestA weekly summary; you choose the hour and the day of week
Public holidays in digestWhether public holidays appear in your digest
Digest scopeWhose activity the digest covers — self / department / managed / organization
Document upload emailToggle emails when documents are uploaded
Document expiry emailToggle emails when documents are about to expire
Scope is capped by your org. The organization can set the maximum digest scope, and a privacy setting can restrict non-admins to their department. If your scope options look limited, that's an org-level policy.

Digests are sent by a scheduled job, so they arrive at the configured hour rather than instantly.

Channels: Slack, Teams, and push

ChannelLevelNotes
Slack (org)Organization webhookPer-type allowlist controls which notification types post
Teams (org)Organization webhookPer-type allowlist controls which notification types post
Slack (personal)Per-user webhookYour own Slack destination
Teams (personal)Per-user webhookYour own Teams destination
Mobile pushPer-user deviceDelivered to the mobile app
Slack and Teams require the notification-channels feature (Pro and up). Mobile push and email are available without it.
Verify your email to use personal channels. Users with an unverified email do not receive personal channel messages (personal Slack/Teams/push).

Roles

Notifications are scoped to what each role is responsible for — for example, only approvers receive approval-required notifications, and balance-low goes to the affected employee. There is no separate role gate for receiving your own notifications; channel availability is governed by your plan (Slack/Teams need Pro+) and your verified-email status.
